In short

Advanced analytics is the use of statistical and machine learning models to explain what happened, predict what is likely to happen and recommend what to do next, going beyond descriptive reporting. Stralya frames each use case around one business decision, tests the model on your own data against a simple baseline, and deploys it where people already work.

6 to 8 weeks

What is advanced analytics?

Reporting tells you what happened last month. Advanced analytics goes further: it explains why a number moved, estimates what is likely to happen next and, in its most useful form, recommends an action. Forecasting demand, scoring churn risk, segmenting customers by behavior or setting prices under constraints are typical examples of the work.

The value is never in the model alone. A churn score nobody looks at changes nothing. Every use case we take on is framed around a specific decision: who makes it, how often, with what information today, and what a better answer would be worth. The model is then built to improve that decision and measured against it.

The scope can be a single model or a portfolio. Some teams want a first predictive use case to prove value before investing further. Others already employ data scientists and need help moving models from notebooks to production. Both start with the same framing work. Our data consulting practice covers the strategy and governance that keep models reliable over time.

Signs you need advanced analytics

Teams usually reach for advanced analytics when reports stop being enough to act on. These are the signals that a model would change outcomes rather than add one more chart to a dashboard that already has too many.

  • Planning relies on last year plus a percentage

Budgets, stock levels or staffing are set from history and intuition, and the error only appears when it is too late to adjust.

  • You react to churn after it happens

Customers or contracts are lost before anyone notices warning signs that were already visible in usage or payment data.

  • Every customer gets the same treatment

Offers, service levels or collection actions are uniform because nobody can tell which segments respond to what.

  • Models exist but never reach production

Promising notebooks from internal teams or past vendors sit unused because nobody owns deployment, monitoring or retraining.

  • Decisions involve too many variables to weigh by hand

Pricing, routing or allocation choices carry many constraints, and spreadsheets can no longer find a good answer in time.

Advanced analytics is not the right answer when the underlying data is unreliable or the decision is made once a year. In those cases we say so plainly and recommend fixing the foundations first, because a model trained on poor data only automates the error.

What our analytics engagement covers

An analytics use case is delivered as a complete chain, from the business question to a model your teams use and can maintain. Each deliverable below is part of the standard scope, so nothing essential is left for a later phase that never gets funded.

  • Use-case framing

The decision, its owner, the success metric and a baseline written down before any modeling, so value can be measured honestly.

  • Data audit and feature preparation

Sources checked for coverage, quality and leakage, then the variables the model needs built in a repeatable pipeline.

  • Model development against a baseline

Several candidate approaches compared with a simple rule or the current method, and kept only if they clearly do better.

  • Deployment where decisions happen

Scores, forecasts or recommendations delivered into your CRM, ERP, BI tool or an API, on a schedule the business can rely on.

  • Monitoring and retraining plan

Drift alerts, performance tracking and a documented retraining procedure, so the model stays accurate after we leave.

Code, documentation and a model card describing the data, assumptions and known limits are handed over at the end. Your team can retrain, audit and extend the model without depending on us, and anyone joining later can understand why it behaves the way it does.

Is your use case model-ready?

A 2 to 4 week assessment checks your data, frames the decision and tells you whether a model is worth building.

How we deliver analytics: four phases

Phases are short and each ends with a go or no-go decision. If the data does not support the use case, you learn it in the first weeks, not after the budget is spent and the expectations are set.

PHASE 01

Frame

Decision, success metric, baseline and data sources agreed.

PHASE 02

Explore

Data audit, feature engineering and first candidate models.

PHASE 03

Validate

Back-testing against the baseline, then a supervised pilot.

PHASE 04

Deploy

Production pipeline, monitoring, documentation and team handover.

The pilot is the step most projects skip. We run the model alongside the current process for a defined period, with business users comparing its output to their own judgment. That comparison is what earns trust, and it often surfaces practical constraints that offline testing never reveals. Senior consultants pair with your analysts throughout, so the skills stay in-house.

Diagnostic, predictive or prescriptive: which fits?

Not every question needs machine learning. We match the technique to the decision and to the data available, and start with the simplest approach that answers the question well enough to change what people do.

ApproachQuestion it answersTypical useData needed
DiagnosticWhy did this number move?Margin drops, conversion changes, cost overrunsClean history with the right breakdowns
PredictiveWhat is likely to happen next?Demand forecasts, churn risk, payment delaysEnough history covering past outcomes
SegmentationWhich groups behave differently?Targeted offers, service tiers, collection strategiesBehavioral and transactional data per customer
PrescriptiveWhat should we do, given constraints?Pricing, stock allocation, routing, schedulingPredictions plus costs, rules and capacities
Simple rulesIs a model even needed?Stable processes with few, well-known driversExpert knowledge and basic reporting

The last row matters. A well-designed rule that experts agree with can beat a complex model that nobody trusts, and it costs far less to maintain. When the right answer is better information rather than a model, we move the work to our decision optimization approach and focus on getting the signal to the people who act on it.

Risks in analytics projects, and safeguards

Analytics projects rarely fail on algorithms. They fail on data, framing and adoption. We address each of the risks below explicitly in the plan, with a check at every phase gate rather than a review at the very end.

  • Data leakage

Information from the future slipping into training data makes a model look excellent in testing and useless in production. We design validation to rule it out.

  • No baseline to beat

Without a comparison point, any accuracy figure looks good. We measure every model against the current method or a simple rule.

  • Model drift

Customer behavior, prices and processes change, and accuracy decays quietly. Monitoring and retraining triggers are part of the delivery, not an option.

  • Opaque predictions

Users ignore scores they cannot explain. We favor interpretable models where possible and show the drivers behind each prediction.

  • Bias and personal data

Models using personal data must respect GDPR and avoid unfair treatment of groups. We review features and outcomes for both before deployment.

Each risk has an owner on your side and on ours. When data quality or ownership turns out to be the main blocker, we flag it early and propose the minimum data governance work needed to make the model dependable, instead of building on a base that will move under it.

Advanced analytics pricing

Every engagement starts with a diagnosis and ends with a fixed quote. Durations are typical, not promised, and depend mainly on the state of the data and how deeply the model must integrate with your operational systems.

FormatDurationPrice
Analytics assessment2 to 4 weeksFixed quote after diagnosis
Analytics use case6 to 8 weeksFixed quote after the assessment
Model monitoring and retrainingMonthlyMonthly fee quoted at handover

What changes the price: number and quality of data sources, depth of integration into operational systems, explainability requirements and how much of the build your analysts take on.

The quote covers senior consultants only, a defined scope and the deliverables of each phase, including code and documentation. Compute, storage and any software licences used to train or run the models are billed separately by their providers and estimated during the assessment.

Advanced analytics FAQ

How much data do we need for a predictive model?

It depends on the question, not on a fixed volume. What matters is enough history covering the outcomes you want to predict, with consistent definitions. The assessment checks this before any model is built.

Do we need data scientists in-house?

No. We can build and deploy the first use case with your analysts or IT team. We document everything, train the people who will maintain it, and advise on hiring once the value is proven.

How do you measure whether a model works?

Against the decision it supports. Before modeling, we agree a success metric and a baseline, usually the current method. A model is deployed only if it beats that baseline in back-testing and in a supervised pilot.

Can you work with models our team already built?

Yes. We review existing models, fix validation issues and take the good ones to production with monitoring and retraining. A short review tells you which are worth deploying and which should be retired.

Will the model replace people’s judgment?

Not by default. Most models support a decision: they rank, forecast or flag, and a person decides. Full automation is considered only for high-volume, low-risk decisions, with clear limits and human review.

Where do the models run?

Inside your environment, on the cloud or on-premise platform you already use when it fits. We are vendor-neutral and choose the deployment path with your IT team, based on security, cost and maintainability.
